Description

The MIFARE 1KB card is a passive RFID card that derives power from an external source, the RFID reader, using radio waves. RFID, an acronym for Radio-frequency identification, is a technology used for object identification through radiofrequency communication. In the RFID setup, an electromagnetic field is generated by the reader's antenna coil. This field induces voltage in the tag's transponder, thus energizing its microchip. The induced voltage is then stored in the tag's receiver circuit. Once powered, the tag communicates with the reader by manipulating its load. Changes in load induce corresponding changes in power consumption within the reader's antenna. These consumption variations are interpreted as binary data. An alternate data transmission method involves backscattered coupling, wherein the tag generates a secondary electromagnetic field through the power of the primary field. The reader detects this secondary field and decodes data by analyzing changes in the electromagnetic field.

When initiating communication, the tag often sends its Unique Identifier (UID) and PICC (Proximity Integrated Circuit Card) type to the reader. The UID, represented as a unique identifier like "BD 31 15 2B," is stored in the tag's first memory block and remains unalterable. The PICC type specifies the tag's category and functionality. Notably, for projects involving Arduino or ESP8266 microcontrollers, the MIFARE 1KB tag is frequently employed due to its compatibility and capabilities.

Features

  • Contactless Transmission of Data and Supply Energy (No Battery Needed): The MIFARE 1KB card operates without the need for a battery. It draws power for its operations from the electromagnetic field emitted by an RFID reader. This field not only powers the card's functions but also allows data exchange without physical contact.
  • Operating Distance: Up to 100mm (Depending on Antenna Geometry): The MIFARE 1KB card can effectively communicate with an RFID reader at distances of up to 100mm. The range can vary based on factors such as the design and size of the antenna used in both the card and the reader.
  • Operating Frequency: 13.56MHz: The card operates within the frequency range of 13.56MHz. This frequency is standard for many RFID applications and allows for efficient data transmission and power transfer.
  • Data Transfer: 106 kbit/s: The MIFARE 1KB card can achieve data transfer rates of up to 106 kbit/s. This rate enables the swift exchange of information between the card and the reader, making transactions and interactions seamless and efficient.
  • Data Integrity: 16 Bit CRC, Parity, Bit Coding Bit Counting: To ensure accurate data transmission, the card employs various techniques such as a 16-bit Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC), parity checks, and bit coding and counting methods. These mechanisms collectively enhance data integrity and minimize errors during communication.
  • Anticollision: The card is equipped with anticollision capabilities, which enable multiple cards to be in the reader's field simultaneously without interference. This feature ensures that each card's data is transmitted accurately, even in scenarios where several cards are within range.
  • Typical Ticketing Transaction: <100 ms (Including Backup Management): The MIFARE 1KB card excels in rapid transactions. A typical ticketing transaction, which involves reading or writing data, takes less than 100 milliseconds. This time frame includes backup management processes to ensure data reliability.
