Description

The TCS3200 and TCS3210 are advanced programmable color light-to-frequency converters, designed to provide precise color sensing and light intensity measurement. These devices incorporate configurable silicon photodiodes and a current-to-frequency converter into a single monolithic CMOS integrated circuit, resulting in a versatile solution for various applications.

Features:

  • Light-to-Frequency Conversion: These converters produce a square wave output with a 50% duty cycle. The frequency of this output is directly proportional to the intensity of light or irradiance, making them suitable for capturing changes in light conditions.
  • Scaling Output Frequency: The full-scale output frequency can be adjusted using two control input pins, offering flexibility in matching the sensor's response to specific application requirements.
  • Digital Interface: Both converters support digital inputs and digital output, allowing seamless integration with microcontrollers and other logic circuitry. This digital interface simplifies the process of reading and processing the sensor's output data.
  • Output Enable (OE): The Output Enable pin enables the sensor to switch its output to a high-impedance state. This feature is particularly useful when multiple sensors need to share a microcontroller input line.

Specifications:

  • TCS3200: This model incorporates an 8 x 8 array of photodiodes, providing a robust set of color sensing capabilities. It includes 16 photodiodes with blue filters, 16 with green filters, 16 with red filters, and 16 clear photodiodes with no filters.
  • TCS3210: Designed for applications with slightly reduced photodiode density, the TCS3210 features a 4 x 6 array of photodiodes. It consists of 6 photodiodes with blue filters, 6 with green filters, 6 with red filters, and 6 clear photodiodes with no filters. This configuration is well-suited for applications where a slightly lower level of detail is sufficient.
